WELCOME TO ROCKLEDGE!
Rockledge Elementary Designated 2014 School of Excellence

Our students have the distinction of attending a newly named PWCS School of Excellence. This is the 13th consecutive year Rockledge has earned the coveted title.

School of Excellence is the highest recognition awarded to schools by the PWCS School Board. It signifies high levels of performance on state accreditation, Annual Measurable Objectives, and in moving toward the goals of the Division's Strategic Plan.

Congratulations to everyone who helped to earn this important indicator of student success.

The Bookfair is Coming!
The Bookfair is coming! Take this opportunity to bring books into your home, the classroom and the Rockledge Library.  We will have preview times the three days before Thanksgiving and purchasing times will be the week after Thanksgiving.  We will be open for shopping every school day the first week in December and two evenings, Tuesday and Wednesday until 8:00.  Bookfair is a perfect opportunity to do some holiday shopping. We will have a generous selection of books. So please, save some time to come and visit the Rockledge Bookfair in the Library.

Attention 5th Grade Parents
Are you interested in learning about the World Language Programs offered at the middle school level? If so, you should plan to attend the informational nights at the middle schools.

Students slated to attend Lake Ridge Middle can go to the informational night at Lake Ridge Middle School on Wednesday November 5, 2014 or Thursday January 8, 2015. Both meetings are at 7:00pm.

Students slated to attend Woodbridge Middle School or Fred Lynn Middle School should attend the informational night at Fred Lynn Middle School, also held on Wednesday November 5, 2014 and January 8, 2015. Both of these meetings will also be at 7pm. Please contact these schools directly with questions or concerns about the World Language Programs.

Information On Healthy Snacks
Last month a letter was sent home regarding health and wellness. It outlined the need to arrange with your child's teacher in advance if you are interested in bringing snacks to school. You can click here to see a copy of that letter. We are also including the Healthy Special Day form and the Healthy Refreshment Idea form. These forms will be available year round on the side link under: Parents, Health and Wellness. Thank you for your assistance in making this a healthy school year!
Advisory Council
Are you interested in becoming more involved in your child's school? Consider becoming a part of the Rockledge Advisory Council. Council members have an opportunity to learn more about what is happening at Rockledge. Members also provide input to the principal regarding the school's programs and initiatives, strategic plan and budget. The meetings are held in the library on the first Thursday of each month and will follow this schedule:

October 2, 3:50 - 4:50
November 6, 6 - 6:30 (all invited to participate in PTA following this meeting)
January 8, 3:50 - 4:50
February 5, 6 - 6:30
March 5, 3:50 - 4:50
May 7, 6 - 6:30

Please contact Principal Schott by emailing her, schottam@pwcs.edu, or calling the school office at 703-491-2108, if you are interested in participating on the Advisory Council.  We appreciate and welcome parent involvement at Rockledge!
SACC and Inclement Weather
The School Age Child Care (SACC) program does not operate during inclement weather closings. When school is closed, SACC is closed. If school closes early due to inclement weather, parents will be notified and can implement their alternative plan for weather related or other emergency closings. Parents who have children registered in the SACC program should have completed an "Inclement Weather and Emergency Dismissal Form," which details the this alternative plan. When the School Division cancels after-school and/or evening activities, all SACC students must be picked up before 5 p.m. See the SACC brochure for more complete details or visit the SACC Web site.
Inclement Weather Letter
The letter to parents from the Superintendent regarding school closings and delays is available on pwcs.edu: "News and Updates", "Closings, Delays and Emergencies", "Inclement Weather school Delays & Closings". You can also click here to be directed to the letter.

Policies and Regulations
The Policies and Regulations governing Prince William County Public Schools may be accessed online at pwcs.edu. Look for the "Policies and Regulations" button on the left of the page.
Student Accident Insurance
Student accident insurance is becoming more and more important to families due to lack of other insurance for their children, or having major medical plans with ever-increasing deductibles and co-insurance requirements. Student accident insurance will be available July 1 for parents to enroll their students for the 2014-15 school year. Markel (PWCS student accident insurance provider) has an electronic enrollment process through the Markel Web site or by calling 877.444.5014.

This Web site allows parents to:
• View all of the coverage and premium options;
• Review a “Frequently Asked Questions” section; and
• Purchase the insurance using a credit/debit card and receive an instant and printable confirmation of what they purchased.

After Hours Bus Information
For emergency transportation related problems after office hours (4:00pm - 5:30am) call 703.791.8805. If there is a problem after regular office hours, call the Risk Management dispatcher. The dispatcher can contact the Office of Transportation Services supervisor who can assist you. You should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with your child's name, school bus number, and a brief summary of the problem.

You can either find us by searching Rockledge Elementary School, Woodbridge VA or scan here
