Upcoming Events
Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child in the state of Virginia. Schools and school divisions across the state will be having various celebrations and events to celebrate and show appreciation for military families and their children who often endure extended periods of time without a parent as he or she serves our country.
This year, our entire school division is celebrating Purple Up day. If at all possible, please wear the color purple this Thursday, April 24 to show your support for the military children across Prince William County Schools, and those here at Rockledge!
Thank you to each of these families and brave service members for serving and protecting our country!

Rockledge Counselors Achieve RAMP Status!
Congratulations to the Rockledge counseling staff!  Rockledge has been designated as one of only 400 schools nationwide as a RAMP school. The American School Counselor Association established RAMP, Recognized A.S.C.A. Model Program, in 2003 to promote exemplary school counseling. Thank you to Natasha Linton and Jolie Atkins for aligning our program with the national model and working closely with students, families and staff to contribute to student success!

April is Autism Awareness Month
Facts about Autism:
-Autism is a disability that which affects someone's 1) Language and communication 2) Social interactions 3) Behaviors and interests.
-There is no one cause for autism, just like there is no one type of autism.  Scientists think that there's a connection to genetics and the environment, but they're still trying to figure it out.
-Today, there is no cure for autism.  However, it is possible to "overcome" many symptoms of autism, or at the very least gain some control of difficult behaviors.
-The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum.
There are lots of ways YOU can be a friend to someone with autism!
-First, be aware of some common characteristics of autism, and accept that everyone is different
-Know that some kids with autism are very smart, they just show it in a different way
-Be patient--understand that your friend doesn't mean to bother you or others
-Join your friend in activities that interest them
-NEVER be afraid to ask your teacher questions about your classmate with autism
